(Women's Movement)

Ms Hare was a pioneer in the 1960's women's movement. She and her husband, Peter Hare, were founders of, and Daphne became president of, the Buffalo Chapter of the National Organization for Women (NOW).

Her bronze monument is an adaptation of the symbol for "Sisterhood is Powerful." In the Hare marker, two clenched fists are used to represent Daphne and Peter's partnership in the women's movement.

The epitaph "From Lemons she made Lemonade" refers to the fact that throughout her career in academic medicine, she found opportunities to do interesting things despite harsh gender discrimination.
