(Founded Visiting Nurses Association)

Elizabeth Coe Marshall, a Sunday School Teacher at the First Presbyterian Church in Buffalo, NY, collected funds from her students to hire a nurse to provide free nursing among the sick, poor, and later to carry on a Diet Kitchen and Flower Mission.

Thus began the practice of nurses traveling to the homes of the sick, recuperating and disabled Americans (Visiting Nurses). From Marshall's idea developed the Buffalo District Nurse Association, which became the Buffalo Visiting Nursing Association in 1928.

She was the daughter of Orasmus Holmes Marshall, one of the first Trustees of Forest Lawn Cemetery from 1864-1884.

At the time of her death she resided at 700 Main Street in Buffalo.
