Mrs. Margaretta Fryer Wickser was married to the late Philip J. Wickser. At the time of his death in 1949 he was president elect of the American Bar Association; president of the State Board of Bar Examiners; and chairman of the Board of the Buffalo Insurance Co.

Mrs. Wickser was the grand daughter of Pascal P. Pratt, founder and president of the Manufacturers and Traders Trust Co. and descendent of Capt. Samuel Pratt who moved to Buffalo in 1804 among the city's first settlers.


Mrs. Wickser was active in hospital work much of her life. She served as president of the Women's Auxiliary of Meyer Hospital in 1950 and as a Grey Lady during World War II. She was also past president of the 20th Century Club; life member of the Buffalo and Erie County Historical Society, and Buffalo Fine Arts Academy.

In 1950 Mrs. Wickser established a James Joyce collection in the State University of Buffalo's Lockwood Memorial Library in memory of her husband. The collection consists of manuscripts, personal items and the library of the novelist.

Mrs. Wickser was 78 years of age at the time of her death.
