Section 10, Lot 1379
Date of Death: 8/23/2000
(initiator of "Herd About Buffalo")

It was Wilkins who, after seeing "Cows on Parade" during a 1999 visit to Chicago conceived the idea for the "Herd About Buffalo" campaign. Large buffalo statues would be purchased, decorated and placed around the City.

These buffalo were later auctioned off with the proceeds going to Roswell Park Cancer Institute.

Wilkins wrote: "I immediately envisioned life sized fiberglass buffaloes roaming our great city."

Mrs. Wilkins did not live to bask in this triumph. She died at Roswell Park, age 55, less than two years after she was diagnosed with colon cancer. It was written of her: "She was our inspiration, a great leader for this project. She wanted to make a difference in this town and she did."
