The district includes all the properties

  • on the west side of South Elmwood from Tracy to Huron,

  • those on the north side of Huron to Niagara,

  • those on the east side of Niagara to Carolina,

  • those on both sides of Carolina to Tracy and

  • those on both sides of Tracy back to South Elmwood.

The district also comprises all the properties within those boundaries, such as ones on Johnson Park, Whitney Place, Cary Street, and all those in the recent Prospect Place development.

A Designated Local Preservation District, approved May 30, 1978, Common Council Proceedings Item No. 189. The West Village Historic Preservation District is also listed in the National Register of Historic Places, listed May 6, 1980.

All exterior construction, reconstruction, demolition, or redevelopment work to be performed on any structure or site within the West Village Historic Preservation District must be undertaken in conformance with the Preservation Standards and Project Review Procedures, as defined in Chapter 337 of the Charter and Ordinance of the City of Buffalo, New York, as administered by the City of Buffalo Preservation Board..
