Entrance Buildings - Park Güell
Barcelona, Spain

Architect: Antoni Gaudí
Built: 1900-1914
Style: Art Nouveau
Status: UNESCO World Heritage Site

Gaudí's patron, Eusebi Güell, planned a suburban "city." His property was high above Barcelona, northwest and some distance from the city. More than 60 housing plots were allocated although only two homes were built on the property. One was intended to be a show house, but on being completed in 1904 was put up for sale, and as no buyers came forward, Gaudí, at Güell's suggestion, bought it with his savings and moved in with his family and his father in 1906.

The project was radical for its time and, as a real estate project, was a failure. The Barcelona City Council bought the property in 1922 and in the following year converted it to a municipal park.

Trencadís (Catalan language) is a type of mosaic created from broken tile shards.
Antoni Gaudí was the first to use this technique
