Local joiners working in rural areas also built in the Greek Revival style. They were carpenters, not architects, who learned their apprenticeship and their classical details from pattern books. These popular texts, early do-it-yourself books, provided information on how to make "Greek" decorative details, many of which were actually derived from non-classical sources. Their clients, however, were not fussy about historical accuracy, borrowed what pleased them, and applied it to homes of traditional plan.
