Caption: "This simple, but elegant brougham style carriage had two owners, one of them being former U. S. President Millard Fillmore. In  addition to being the nation's 13th president, Fillmore was a founding member of the Buffalo Historical Society and served as its first president. After Fillmore's death in 1874, the carriage became the property of the Honorable Loran L. Lewis, a New York State Senator from 1869 to 1873. Built around 1867 by Harvey and Wallace, Buffalo carriage makers, this vehicle was typical of the type used by upper-middle class Buffalonians."
