Wainscot chair

Paneled chairs of French and English type, 16th and 17th centuries.

Constructed of a plank seat and a panel back that was often carved with dates, initials, and geometric, floral, and strapwork details

They were probably developed from the detachment of a piece of wall paneling with a seat-board attached.
