Source:

Emperor Franz Joseph II's desk chair

Materials:

Walnut, leather

Produced:

Vienna, second half of the 18th century

In France, this style chair was known as a bergere (shepherdess) chair: an armchair with enclosed, upholstered sides.

This more restrained rococo is associated with Louis XV. The chair would normally have a thick, loose seat cushion, and the comfort provided by this and the curled back/arm panels led to the association with rural ease .
